Moebius Class!!!

I signed up for a knitting class to knit a moebius!!! All I need is yarn and a size 10.5 47" long Addi turbo knitting needles. I had no idea what I would be making but Marilyn assured me it would be fun and I should join her. First off we knitted a swatch with our yarn and got our gauge. We then measured each other across our shoulders. We gave the numbers to Kate and she calculated for us our number of stitches to cast on. I then cast on my 120 stitches in the new to me, provincial cast on with the needles looped around in a circle. I knitted round and round changing my colors randomly. I changed direction of my circular knitting as well, so that I would have the knit and purl sides reversing itself randomly. You can also knit bobbles and dingles ( a cast on and bind off "little finger" thingy) randomly since there is no right side or wrong side to a moebius. Sounds confusing but you got to try a moebius to underdstand some of this craziness. Knitting a moebius is interesting, fun and challenging for the first time.

Pumpkin Hat for Ella

My great niece Ella is celebrating her first Halloween this evening with a parade in her town. So, to celebrate this event I decided to knit her a pumpkin hat. I have some dyed wool that I dyed last week at our monthly knitting guild so, without a pattern and a plan I begin to knit a hat. I cast 0n 54 stitches with my #9 double points and "winged it". I turned out super cute and I knitted another for myself (grandkids one day!). I going to try and post a photo.

Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival

On Saturday I woke up early, 4:30 am to get ready to leave for Rhinebeck. I met some friends from my spinning group The Blue Mountain Fiber Arts for the four hour trip. We had a beautiful fall day with the colorful fall foliage for our ride up through PA and NY. When we arrived I was excited to see all the different items the vendors had displayed and had for sale. I bought some nice fleece and a bit of yarn, knitting needles, a book and a beautiful hand crafted drop spindle. If you get the chance to go to this festival it is truly a wonderful experience. I am looking forward to next year.
